MISSION STATEMENT

The Board of Selectmen is a representative policy making body. It is the mission of the Board to work together in a collegial way that is respectful of the full range of views, not only of the Board itself, but the entire community. The Board is committed to assuring that all of those views are fairly heard, presented in a way that is open and honest and in a way that puts all the issues on the table and lets us move together toward consensus, toward positions and approaches that bring together a wider group of people and move forward together for the good of the community.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

To continue to draw on a diverse cross-section of Lexington’s citizens to assist the Board in completing a strategic planning process to deal with the perennial budgetary problems, recurring issues and the challenges and conflicts we meet in dealing with these issues.

To continue the constructive, collaborative efforts with the School Committee, Town Manager and Finance Committees in developing a capital needs program and financing strategy for the next ten years and beyond and to insure consistent and adequate funding for on-going maintenance of the Town’s infrastructure.

To continue to work toward the goal of attaining a Free Cash Balance of 5% of the operating budget over the next eight years while moving to achieve appropriate steady State funding for cash capital needs.

To continue working with neighboring communities and other constituencies in dealing with a number of major land-use issues that have major regional implications.
