High winds expected from Hurricane Earl. -- Call NStar to report a power outage at 1-800-592-2000. -- To report non-emergency storm damage to the Town, call 781-862-1212 ext. 0. Always call 911 in an emergency. (posted September 2, 2010)
As Hurricane Earl continues to track toward the Massachusetts coast, NSTAR issued a media advisory announcing the company's preparations for repairing any damage caused to its electric system. (posted September 2, 2010) The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) recommends a number of steps people can take to help minimize potential damage from hurricanes and heavy storms. Verizon's toll free number for telecommunications related issues is 1-800-4966. They also have a customer check list to prepare for storms. (posted September 2, 2010)
The Town pool and Pine Meadows Golf Club will close at 2:00 p.m on Friday, September 3 as a public safety measure during the anticipated storm. Hours at the Irving H. Mabee Town Pool Complex will be 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31 throughThursday, September 2. Pools will open at 11:00 a.m. starting Friday, September 3 through Labor Day, Monday, September 6. The leak in Weston remains stable according to the MWRA and it is not causing any service disruption. After further assessment, the MWRA is optimistic that it can repair the leak while the pipe is in service. West Nile Virus has been found in mosquitoes collected in Lexington. Residents are advised to take basic steps to protect themselves. Busa Land Use Proposal Committee open forum September 15, 2010, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Cary Memorial Hall, 1605 Massachusetts Avenue. >The Committee wants to hear the public's ideas, hopes, visions, and fears for the future use of the Busa land. >A brief overview of the committee and the land will be provided. >Anyone who wants to speak will be given up to 3 minutes and the Committee will listen and keep a record of the comments, for discussion at the next meeting. Lexington Citizens' Academy announced. 10-session program to help residents gain a deeper understanding of Lexington's local government begins Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. Sessions will include presentations, discussions, and visits to Town departments and facilities. Willard's Woods revised dog regulations took effect September 1, 2010. Dogs must be on leash on Saturdays & Sundays at all times and in all locations; dogs may be walked off leash on weekdays, but must remain under immediate restraint & control either by leash or voice command. DPW is conducting sanitary sewer inspection and smoke testing for a month beginning the second week in August, to identify locations where ground & surface water infiltrates into the sanitary sewage collection system. An inert, nontoxic smoke will be introduced into the sewer mains, and residents may see white smoke venting from manhole covers in the streets. Map of smoke testing areas. (posted August 5, 2010)
